ALbD, a national program office of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, works with communities across the country to assist them in increasing routine physical activity and healthy eating through community design.
What area of the country do you work in?
Communities across North Carolina as part of the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund's Fit Community designaton and grant program.
Who do you work with?
Multidisciplinary community partnerships that involve government and nonprofit leaders in the fields of planning, health, parks and recreation, transportation, and more.
What is the main obstacle your organization encounters that prevents you from doing your work most effectively?
It's not always easy to provide effective technical assistance (TA) from an off-site location and perspective. However, coaching can be helpful, as long as I am informed about the issues, am sensitive to each community's needs, and help them explore barriers and opportunities concerning their goals. The biggest obstacle I face is being fully informed about each community and having ample resources to draw from in order to provide better TA.

Hey Cara!
I just got your message. Welcome to the RIN! Thanks for your kind words. We are also in the process of developing a face to face community of practice for our rural partners that will be a part of the RIN. Will keep you posted.
I would love to connect with you sooner that later. I will give you a call in a few minutes so we can schedule something.

I know, but I've been aware of you and your ongoing good work ever since! Things are great - love my work, and looking forward to rubbing elbows in the rural arena. Lucky you, you get to work with Omisade! We miss her very much. RIN is impressive - what a ton of work it must have been to get it up and running. Id on't know how active I'll be on a regular basis, but looking forward to learning from it. -Cara
